Secret Places – Eastern Montgomery County, PA

Whether you have the whole day or just a couple of hours, these amazing sites offer unique experiences found nowhere else…world class architecture, beautiful landscapes, historic artifacts, educational opportunities and contemporary art.

Come and visit the Abington Art Center with its displays of 4 major group shows annually.  The Sculpture Park is well worth the time to stroll through and see all the creative things that are on display.

The Arts at Arcadia hosts internationally known speakers and artists for your pleasure.  They also do theatre productions and concerts for you.

The Grey Towers Castle was built to resemble the Alnwick Castle of the Dukes of Northumberland in England, although when it was built in 1893 the most modern conveniences of the time were incorporated into the construction, including electricity.  Stop in and see this treasure and imagine what it would have been like to have lived in this as your home.

The Beth Sholom Synagogue is a National Historic Landmark and is the only synagogue designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.  It was recognized shortly after his death by the American Institute of Architects and the National trust for historic Preservation as one of his seventeen most important projects.

The Briar Bush Nature Center features over a mile of trails winding through a variety of natural habitats with the opportunity to see a wide assortment of native plants and wild animals.  Visit the Bird Observatory, see the interactive exhibits, touch tables and the play areas.  You will enjoy the time you spend here.

The Bryn Athyn Cathedral main building is a Gothic, while the northern and southern buildings are in the early Romanesque style.

Cairnwood was designed to be the home for the industrialist John Picairn and his family.  It evokes the grandeur of the Gilded Age with its intimacy, beauty and elegance.

The Glencairn Museum presents religious life through the ages with its collection of exhibits from ancient Egyptian, ancient Greek and Roman, medieval Christian, Islamic, Asian and American Indian artifacts.

High School Park is an 11 acre natural oasis in the heart of Elkins Park, Pa.  There are trails, native plants, and wildlife for you to enjoy while visiting the area.

Stop in at Meadowbrook Farm and see what they have to offer in the way of making your life more beautiful.  There are tours of the House and Private Gardens with prior arrangements for groups of 15 or more from April to November.

The sites included in Secret Places are all within minutes of each other in Eastern Montgomery County, just North of Philadelphia.

Also part of the Secret Places is the Pennypack Ecological Restoration trust where you can see how the stewardship of the lands have created a place of beauty for your enjoyment.  Hike the trails, see the wildlife, smell the scent of nature and the wonders all around you.
