Get Colorful with Crayola in Easton, Pennsylvania

Just about every child in America knows the pure and simple joy of coloring a picture with his or her favorite color crayons. Drawings made of those magical, little wax sticks hang on refrigerators and in classrooms all around the nation and are given as birthday presents every day. They are a unique part of pop culture, something that has survived generations.

Crayola brand crayons, which were the first mass produced crayons created, have been around since 1903, when the first box debuted (made up of a whopping eight colors). Those first crayons included the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, and black. They sold for a mere five cents per pack.

Crayola has come a long way from the days of that simple little pack of eight crayons. Today, kids and adults can enjoy more than a hundred different types of crayons. Some have glitter, some change colors, and some even glow in the dark!

Due to the popularity of the crayons, the Crayola Factory opened their doors to the public. Located at Two Rivers in Easton, Pennsylvania, families all across the country come to learn about the history of their favorite drawing implement and participate in the many hands on activities offered at the site.

Visitors to the factory – which is now more of a tourist attraction than a real factory – get to see how crayons are made. This process hasn’t changed much since those first crayons were produced in 1903. They get to watch the whole process as their very own souvenir (a pack of four crayons) is molded, wrapped, and packed. It is something that both adults and children will enjoy. In addition to watching the crayons being made, visitors can also see the Crayola markers and learn how they are put together.

Many will also be intrigued with learning the history of the Crayola crayon and seeing how crayons have changed over the last century. There are a lot of interesting little tidbits and trivia that are sure to please the inquiring types.

There is even a place in the factory where the kids are allowed to color on the walls, something that they have just been aching to do! Another one of the most impressive parts of the factory is the Crayola Meltdown Exhibit. It gives visitors the opportunity to paint with melted crayons, something that most people have contemplated at one time or another in their youth!

The Crayola Factory is worth the trip to Easton, Pennsylvania. It is good colorful fun for the whole family.  Just in case you can’t get enough of the Crayola Factory in one day, then you’ll want to check out the many accommodation options available to you.  You can find several options at HotelsCombined.com.
