Visit the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Pittsburgh has a lot to offer visitors in the way of museums. One of the most popular and most often visited museums is the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. It is one of four Carnegie Museums located in Pittsburgh. The others are the Museum of Art, the Andy Warhol Museum, and the Science Center.

Visitors to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History will be able to visit exhibit halls that cover Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, and Anthropology.

Earth Sciences

In the Earth Sciences area of the museum, you will be able to see the Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems, which has a variety of crystals and precious stones. You can also find displays on quartz and a variety of other local minerals. Also learn about how Geiger Counters measure radioactivity.

You can also learn all about fossils, geology, coal and more in the Benedum Hall of Geology. You will also want to check out the "Stratavator," a simulated ride down 16,000 feet into the earth’s interior.

Make sure you stop by the Earth Theater as well, where you can view state of the art digital movies on a variety of subjects, from dinosaurs, the Amazon, and even the Titanic.

Life Sciences

One of the most popular exhibits in the museum is Dinosaurs in Their Time. Here, guests can learn all about a variety of their favorite dinosaurs, and examine a number of fossils.

The Hall of North American Wildlife showcases many of the most impressive animals that live in North America. The habitat diorama exhibits do a great job of simulating the animals in their environments. Learn about jaguar, white-tailed deer, brown bears, mountain goats, and more.

In the Hall of African Wildlife, you can see dioramas that display all of Africa’s geographic zones: savannah, rainforest, mountain, and desert.

Anthropology

Just about everyone is fascinated by ancient Egypt, and the Walton Hall in the museum has a number of artifacts that people are going to love. You can see a sarcophagus, a funerary boat, and a whole lot more.

The Alcoa Foundation Hall of American Indians houses a number of artifacts as well as information that details the cultures of Native American tribes from around the country.

Everyone who comes to the museum will learn a lot and have a great time. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is closed on Mondays, open Tuesday – Saturday from 10AM – 5PM (except Thursday, when it is open until 8PM). On Sunday, the museum is open from 12PM to 5PM.
