Abington Art Center- Jenkintown, PA

Abington Art Center (515 Meetinghouse Road, Jenkintown PA 19046) is a nonprofit cultural center in suburban Philadelphia. AAC is dedicated to providing opportunities for its many audiences to experience, appreciate and participate in the arts at whatever level they choose. AAC engages visitors, artists and students with its sculpture park and gallery exhibitions of today’s artists, studio art classes, and public programs.

Founded in 1939, the Old York Road Art Guild is known today as Abington Art Center. They believe art should be engaging, approachable and, above all else, fun. At Abington Art Center, you won’t just observe art. You’ll touch it, feel it, create it and be a part of it.

The Art Center has established a nationally recognized Sculputre Garden which is something you will truly enjoy seeing.  The sculpture at Abington Art Center has highlighted the forces and materials found in nature.  The human element comes to the forefront in the newest selections added in 2010 with the works fo Richard Metz and his eco-graffiti displays in the local woods where the creations stay for just a while and then nature washes them away and he creates new ones.  Come often and see the different creations he provides for your enjoyment.

There is also work by Doug Mott, part of the WoMo Art team that will be of interest to you as you evaluate the creativity of this form of art.

Jay Walker transformed the remains of the oldest tree in the Sculpture Park with two monumental figures.  To take something of this nature and create beauty out of “remains” is truly a gift that is valuable to see.

The paintings of Steven Baris, the mixed media of Virginia Bradley, the paintings of Juri Kim, and the work of Erica Loustau are just some of the works that you will be enjoying with your visit to AAC.

Every Saturday and Sunday through the summer and early fall, AAC hosts free guided tours of the Sculpture Park by one of our docents. Tours leave the Art Center’s lobby at 11am & 1pm, weather permitting. No appointment necessary.

Each month Abington Art Center hosts EUREKA! a fun workshop for families of any size, shape and artistic ability to play and make art together. The art activity is inspired by artwork in AAC’s galleries or Sculpture Park.
EUREKA! costs $5 per project. (AAC members free); no reservations are required. Drop-in anytime between 11 and 3pm.

CoffeeBreak is a relaxed “waking-up-to-art” morning featuring a coffee tasting, pastry pairing and art.

The newest adventure at AAC is the Sweet Beats program.  Miss (Lori) Scherling, music educator, singer-songwriter and family entertainer engages both children and parents with lively, interactive, family music right in AAC’s galleries!  Sweet Beats costs $5 per person/AAC Members and infants FREE.
