Make Your Getaway to Historical Gettysburg
Gettysburg is one of the most famous places in the nation, known primarily for its Civil War battlefield, as well as being the site of President Abraham Lincoln’s famous Address. From July 1 – 3, 1863, more than 51,000 soldiers were wounded or killed on this battlefield. The grasses of the field, they said, turned red with blood and Gettysburg went down in history as hosting one of the bloodiest battles the world has ever seen.
Those who are interested in the historical aspect of the battle should visit the Gettysburg National Military Park. Here visitors can learn all about the Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg, and see collections of genuine Civil War era artifacts. You may even get the chance to see a reenactment of part of the battle if you are lucky. This is a great place for all history buffs and Civil War Enthusiasts to come.
Many people believe that the spirits of many of these soldiers still linger on the battlefield, and believe that the land around Gettysburg is rife with paranormal activity. Quite a few visitors to the area are amateur ghost hunters, and enjoy nothing more than getting out to the battlefield or seeking one of the supposedly haunted inns and searching for proof of ghosts. Many believe they have taken photos of ghosts and recorded their voices out on the battlefield. You may want to try your luck and see if you catch anything.
Paranormal investigator Mark Nesbitt leads one of the premier ghost tours in the area. Mr. Nesbitt is a former Park Ranger who gave tours at the battlefield and didn’t believe in ghosts until he had his own encounter. The tour has been chosen as the number one ghost tour in America for several years in a row. If you are looking for a thrill of the supernatural variety, then this is the tour for you.
Not everything in Gettysburg has to do with battles and ghosts, however. There is plenty of great shopping and dining. You can find any of a number of great places to stay in and around Gettysburg. Whether you want to stay in a gorgeous historic inn or something more modern, you will be able to find quite a few affordable accommodations.
It is a great place to visit and you can get a real appreciation of this tragic aspect of the nation’s history.
